The Notre Dame Cathedral was built between 1863 and 1880 by the French colonists. This neo-Romanesque structure was built using materials imported from France. The bright red bricks came from Marseille. Looking at the church, one cannot help but wonder if one is transported to Europe.
We heard Friday mass inside. The mass was in Vietnamese so we didn't understand a thing, but pretended to , anyway, imitating what people inside are doing.
The Saigon Post Office, located near the Notre Dame Cathedral, was designed by the man behind the Eiffel Tower, the famous Gustave Eiffel. The gothic architectural style again evokes a European feel.
Inside the post office are bazaars selling souvenirs and post cards. Phone stalls are converted to ATM stalls, giving the place a more contemporary touch.
