Lincoln (2012)

When I heard that the film "Lincoln" is competing in the Oscars, I just had to watch it. It being biographical and historical gave the impression that it was boring and it sure is. Lincoln narrates the events surrounding the passing of the 13th Amendment is U.S. history. The major goal then is to secure votes to abolish slavery. And so lots of boring dialogues. But there is one particular scene which struck me as truly remarkable and well, memorable.

Tommy Lee Jones' role as the the sardonic yet charismatic Thaddeus Stevens gave life to the movie in this highly commendable scene:

  1. Looks like some Georgia alligators made their way up from that state's coastal low country to Atlanta and joined with her governor and a bunch of cowardly fellow reptillian Republicans to further dilute access to voting rights for the poor and less advantaged. The powers that be in Georgia simply do not believe in equality when it comes to anybody seen as a threat to their way of political and economic privilege just because they happen to be poor and belong to races and genders long treated as less than equals.
