Malabon Tour 04202013

Last month, my date with an ex-officemate finally was realized after more than a year since we planned it. It's just I have become so busy with all the invites and with all the work in graduate school, not to mention with house chores and my different jobs.

I used to live in Malabon, but it's not at the very center, but in the periphery, near McArhthur Hi-way. I really had no idea what was in the very heart of Malabon until I learned that my officemate was a resident there. She told me about old houses and that there are two churches which I may visit there. As a lover of churches, I was instantly interested and begged her to tour me around the place. And she mentioned something that really made the trip truly irresistible: the existence of a GIANT burger joint!

And so more than a year later, I am finally rewarded with this awesome trip. I commuted all the way to San Bartolome Church. Once there, I was a bit disappointed to see it being renovated. Still, one can clearly see its glory. The structure is made of adobe blocks!

The interior is as expected, beautiful. The dome right above the altar has the following Latin words: "Rabbi tu es filius dei, tu es rex Israhel. Ecce vere Israhelita in quo dolus non est." Translated as "Teacher, You are the Son of God, You are the King of Israel. This Israelite in whom there is no guile", this is a passage in The Gospel of Saint John Chapter 1 verses 49 and 47.

Checking out the inside of the church, one cannot help but notice grave markers on the four faces of the pillars:

We stopped by Tea Sparkle to refresh ourselves. According to my friend, the establishment is pretty popular in that area. Indeed when we arrived, a lot of people are inside the small store.

We resumed the tour and passed by a number of old houses. As a sign of respect to owners of said houses, I will refrain from posting pictures in this blog. I encourage my readers to visit Malabon and see for themselves the gems that I have found there. :)

The next stop is the Immaculate Concepcion Church, a small church with a school adjacent to it. The ceiling of this church reminds me of Binondo Church in that it has paintings depicting the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

The tour would not be complete without trying the giant burger. Kalborgers is located near the wet market. From the main road, you have to pass through the wet market. You will exit near the port of Navotas. In fact the area smelled of fish. (Makes me think of dishes to cook. Yum!)

The staff are friendly. He asked me where I live then gave me the addresses of their other branches. And I'm happy to know one of the branches is located near my place. Yay!!!
