I never was a fan of telenovelas but at present, I find myself looking forward to watching "Katorse" upon arriving home from work.
"Katorse" (M-F, 5:45pm, ABS-CBN) is a TV series about a fourteen year old girl who became pregnant shortly after experiencing her first menstruation. Nene (the lovely innocent-looking Erich Gonzales) and Gabby (PBB champion EJ Falcon) were childhood friends and even then, she has always liked Gabby. Gabby, a problematic teenager used the innocent Nene as a substitute for his unrequited love for Marissa who chose his brother Albert (Xian Lim). Chosen to be the Reyna Elena and her consort respectively in their barrio, the two went off to the beach after the parade without anyone noticing. And from there, seeds of trouble are planted.
It's good that ABS-CBN is now airing socially relevant series and not just crappy ones centered on the theme "love conquers all". I think the series can at least make teenagers conscious of their body, sexuality and eventually life decisions. Not only does "Katorse" debunks popular myths like a one-time sexual experience cannot make a baby, but it also gives insights to what life can be when a young girl suddenly becomes pregnant out of wedlock.
